Lampard must fight for his place in the Chelsea team, says Villas-Boas

Andre Villas-Boas has told Frank Lampard he will have to comply with his strict squad rotation system.
Sportsmail understands that the Chelsea manager has spoken to all his ‘superstar’ players to warn them that they are playing for their places and he will not select his team based on reputation.
Frank Lampard was substituted at half-time against Manchester United last weekend and dropped for Saturday’s victory over Swansea. 

Lampard was furious with the decision to leave him on the bench, but he has since been assured he is an integral member of the squad.
Villas-Boas is making subtle changes to the way Chelsea play and Saturday’s team was designed to suit £50million striker Fernando Torres.
The Spaniard’s only goals for Chelsea this season — against United and Swansea — have come when Lampard has been off the field.

Those players who did not feature against Swansea were expected to attend training on Sunday, but Lampard, David Luiz and Salomon Kalou asked for permission to train at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night and were given Sunday off.
Chelsea players feared a high-profile name would pay the price under Villas-Boas and Lampard is the first to feel the heat.
But the manager insisted: ‘Lampard (is still) an iconic and a fantastic player, and a key player for sure, no doubt about it. He started five games and played 90 minutes in four of them. We count on him like we count on the others.’
Torres is suspended for three domestic games after the red card for his tackle on Swansea’s Mark Gower. Lampard should get a chance to impress in his absence, along with Didier Drogba in attack, with the next league matches against Bolton, Everton and QPR.
